To travel to India, you must
apply for an e-visa (electronic visa) on the Indian
government website
- You can only apply within 30 days of arriving in India
- It can be a bit confusing, so I made this guide to help!
- âąī¸ Estimated application time: 30-60 minutes
- đĩ Application fee: $25
- Once you've applied, you should automatically receive your visa within 48 hours

- â ī¸ It must be in a pdf format and a max size of 300 kb

- â ī¸ It must be in a jpg format and a max size of 1 mb

Go to https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html , scroll down and click Apply here for e-visa:

Have a scan/clear photo of your passport saved as a pdf and a max of 300 kb. Here is an example of mine that I scanned:
Click Choose File, select your passport pdf, then click Upload Document:

Check the I have verified box and click Confirm:

Verify application:

Generate application:

Select payment:

Begin payment:
If you want to pay with PayPal, click the PayPal heading, click the PayPal logo to initiate the PayPal checkout flow, then click Pay Now:
đ¨ī¸ Printing your e-visa after approval
Once your e-visa is approved (usually within 2 days), you will need to print it. The document is called an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization).
â ī¸ Important: Only printing the email is not enough to grant entry into India. You must follow these steps to print the official e-visa travel authorization document which includes a generated QR code, your photo, and all the other pieces of information for immigration officials to inspect.

You should receive an email from noreply-vss@nic.in. You will need to copy the application id and passport number for the next steps:

Go to https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html , scroll down and click the Check your visa status button:

Enter your application id, passport number, then click Check status:

Click print status:

Download this pdf and save it somewhere where you can access it while you're in India, like Google Drive, OneDrive, your email, your phone, etc.:
You will also need to print this pdf and take it with you when you travel to show the immigration officers.
